School Library Media Coordinator (K-12)

After eighteen years in the classroom teaching English and history, I have moved into the Media Center; I'm in my fourth year at East Arcadia School, and I will also be serving the students and staff at Bladen Lakes Primary School this school year.

The child of a military father, I was born on an Air Force base in Maryland and lived an idyllic childhood filled with travel and exposure to a variety of cultures. I originally intended to become a lawyer, but my advisor at St. Andrews suggested that I channel my love of literature, reading, writing, and our language into a fulfilling career as an educator. His suggestion was a prophetic one, then and now. My first teaching job was an interim position ... I was filling in for a woman on maternity leave. When she didn't return to the classroom after the birth of her child, I stayed on in the position. That was in 1985.

My marriage in 1986 precipitated a move to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and then to Tucson, Arizona. While in Arizona, I worked for eight years as an editor at a small publishing company. Although I do enjoy traveling, I really missed the east coast! Returning to my beloved North Carolina in 1996, I entered the Columbus County Schools system, where I spent fifteen years in the classroom teaching Language Arts and social studies. At present, I am in my fourth year as part of the Bladen County Schools family, serving as the Media Coordinator at East Arcadia School and Bladen Lakes Primary School. I really enjoy being part of the "school family."

I am divorced, and I live in Cerro Gordo (Columbus County). I have one daughter, Miranda, and two granddaughters, Cayleigh and Harley. Most of my free time is spent with family.
